RIO TINTO's mission is to manage the liabilities of the group's former industrial activities in France, in particular by responding to the regulatory requirements set by specific prefectural decrees for each site. At this stage, monitoring is carried out mainly on sites classified as «post-mining», «landfills» and «dams».
ABO-ERG ENVIRONNEMENT was awarded two successive contracts between 2017 and 2026 to:
Carry out environmental monitoring: sampling and analysis of water, sediments, bryophytes, fish
Drafting reports for government agencies,
Complete/consolidate the piezometer network (installation of piezometers, replacement of heads, etc.).
Carry out landscaping maintenance of the sites,
Carry out ancillary work (repairing fences, gates, access ramps, etc.)
Assist and advise RIO TINTO, then implement ecological engineering solutions (treatment of invasive species, eco-grazing, etc.).
Site monitoring is carried out in four phases:
1) Preparation phase: definition of requirements, joint inspection visit, risk analysis, planning, information sharing/discussions with subcontractors, training/awareness-raising for operators, etc.
2) Field phase: data acquisition; visual inspection, measurements (depth, dimensions, pH, conductivity, etc.), sampling, packaging and transport of samples, monitoring and supervision of subcontractors, reporting, etc.
3) Laboratory phase: specific analyses of samples by specialised laboratories.
4) Engineering phase: receipt, verification and interpretation of field and laboratory data, drafting and transmission of reports, technical reports and exchanges with a view to optimisation proposals or recommendations.
ABO-ERG ENVIRONMENT's Q3SE policy is integrated into every phase of the project.
In order to manage several monitoring programmes at more than thirty sites across France, ABO-ERG ENVIRONNEMENT has optimised the fieldwork and engineering phases.
This organisation complies with current standards, is in line with our certifications (ISO 9001 and LNE in particular) and our strong value of customer satisfaction. It is based on the following principles:
– Autonomy in organisation and implementation
– Responsiveness and availability: dedicated project team and support from our various geographical offices
– Consistency and adaptability: for sampling and deliverables (reports), our common procedures are tailored to the specific characteristics of the site.
– Communication and data centralisation
