Flood expansion zone projects in three municipalities and ecological restoration of the Muehlbach

Project management assignment for the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg

ABO-ERG ENVIRONNEMENT, in partnership with ABO GEO+ and XM NATURAE, is assisting the Eurométropole de Strasbourg with project management for flood expansion zone projects in the municipalities of Achenheim, Breuschwickersheim and Osthoffen, and ecological restoration of the Muelbach.
The overall project covers three areas, involving the re-meandering and renaturation of an artificialised and rectified watercourse, covering a catchment area of 22 km².

To improve downstream hydraulic functioning in a municipality prone to flooding, a flood expansion zone was defined with raised roads in order to store the necessary volume.
ABO ERG based the design of these projects on naturalistic studies, structural diagnostics, geotechnical investigations, additional network investigations, etc.
A 1D/2D hydraulic model was created with rainfall calibration to justify the project's impact on flooding in the area.
A water law dossier with DIG was also put together by the consortium to enable the work to be carried out.
