Reinforcement detection and nuclear applications

ABO Innogéo carries out reinforcement detection for nuclear and civil engineering structures.

On 7 July 2026, our teams specialising in geophysics were present at the ITER Meetings in Aix-en-Provence to showcase this expertise, developed over long periods, such as on the Flamanville EPR (over a period of four years) or the RJH – the Jules Horowitz Research Reactor, in collaboration with Clemessy (for over five years).

A structural radar using electromagnetic waves

Our structural radar uses electromagnetic waves to detect reinforcement and elements embedded in concrete, as well as irregularities. 

Measurements are carried out continuously on site by moving a measuring antenna over the area to be monitored:

  • along regularly spaced parallel profiles,
  • or using a grid of longitudinal and transverse profiles for 3D visualisation.

The benefits of structural radar

  • Reflections from the interfaces, reinforcements and heterogeneities present in the examined element form an image.
  • This image is displayed on the radar control screen as the antenna moves.
  • Detected reinforcement can be marked on site or processed in the design office.
  • The results are presented in the form of a table of reinforcement specifications and a reinforcement plan, or as a reinforcement map.

CEFRI E Certification

Since 2021, ABO Innogéo has been CEFRI E-certified – a radiation protection management system – which means that our teams are authorised to carry out work in the presence of ionising radiation.

This certification ensures that our staff have a safe working environment and that the risks associated with our services are constantly managed.
